Indexing: being present in a search engine
Before trying to be first on a keyword or appear on the first page of a search engine, you just have to be there. This is what we call the indexing phase.
Have you created your site today or a few days ago and it is not showing up on search engines yet? Don't panic, it's completely normal!
Online site or site visible on google: What's the difference?
Once your site is created, it's live ! That is, it is accessible by typing the address in the address bar. But it's not indexed the same day : you won't find it if you search.
You must give the search engine robots time to visit your site and index it in their databases. Patience is therefore required for the indexation phase . Please note that we cannot know how long it will take Google to index your site. Several days ? Several weeks ? It is variable.
How to see his site on Google ? How do you get search engines to know about your site? Two solutions are then available to you.
The direct solution: submit your site to search engines
Rather than waiting for the site to appear on its own in Google (or another search engine), submit it directly. This is the first step that any webmaster must take by creating a new site. You don't need to submit all of your pages, the home page is enough.
Don't overlook your presence on other search engines. Yahoo and Bing are search engines that can also bring you traffic.
- Submit the site to Google: http://www.google.com/submit-site-url
- Suggest a site to Yahoo and Bing: http://www.bing.com/toolbox/submit-site-url
The indirect solution: make yourself known by other sites
The more inbound links your site has (also called " backlinks "), the more likely it will be to be indexed quickly. Indeed, search engine robots ceaselessly scan the web. The more inbound links your site has, the more likely it will be visited by a robot.
This is why a newly created site on e-monsite is automatically added to the e-monsite directory. It thus benefits from a first link through which Google's robots will be able to find you.
Make sure you have as many links as possible to your site and you will have a better chance of being visited by search engine robots. Favor quality links as we explain in the section: getting backlinks and exchanging links .
Conclusion
While waiting for your site to be indexed, don't give up. Keep adding content to your site. Get new links, list your site in directories or do link exchanges with partners. After a while, your site will appear in Google . And then ... ? It is not finished, it is even the beginning! Your site is indexed, now it's time for the SEO optimization phase, which will last as long as your site exists.
Let's now see together how to optimize your SEO to improve your positioning in a search engine.
